LAY IT DOWN
whatever weighs you down,
because there
is
SOMEONE
Who not only wants to carry your extra weight,
but carry you.
DO YOU BELIEVE IT?
Are you having a hard time
LETTING GO
of that one thing that you just won't LET GO?
Abraham had to
LET GO
of something that he loved beyond himself~
his little boy Isaac
who was a miracle born to Sarah & him in their ripe old age.
And then GOD asked him
to not only LET GO of his son,
but in a way that was incomprehensible~
to make him a sacrifice.
I could just image what Abraham was thinking
as I know what I would be~
"BBBBuuuut GOD
Not my child.
Not the one that you gave me".
But GOD said,
YES!
So Abraham made the choice to
LET GO
of
his most precious gift.
They climbed the mountain together.
They gathered the wood together.
And then it happened.
Abraham asked Isaac to lay down.
And there Abraham stood
looking down upon his son,
who was never a burden,
but now became the
BURDEN OF LETTING GO.
So he took his knife.~
"But the angel of the LORD called out to him from heaven,
'Abraham! Abraham!'
'Here I am,' he replied.
'Do not lay a hand on the boy,' HE said. “
Do not do anything to him.
Now I know that you fear GOD,
because you have not withheld from ME your son, your only son'” (Genesis 22:11-12).
BUT GOD
was there the whole time.
HE knew what HE was doing,
but boy oh boy
what an excruciating test this was as GOD
was taking Abraham to a deeper level into faith
that demanded
TRUSTING the GOD
whom he loved
&
whom he
BELIEVED that
GOD'S ways are not our ways
&
that
GOD's ways are not to destroy and hurt us.
GOD just wants our ALL
that demands to
LET GO
of all our "Isaacs".
They come in all different shapes and sizes~
A habit.
A worry.
A fear.
A bitterness.
A person
whom we love beyond comprehension~
whether they hurt you
whether they are a prodigal
whether they are no longer here~
yet your heart remains so heavy
like a burdensome weight
that you just can't
LET GO.
We can hold on tightly & GOD will allow us to,
but what HE really desires is for us to
LOVE HIM
"with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength" (Deuteronomy 6:4)
Because
GOD so loves us beyond our comprehension &
HE knows what it feels like
as
HE had to
LET GO of HIS most Prized Possession~
HIS SON JESUS
who also said,
“You shall love the LORD your GOD with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment" (Matthew 22: 37-38).
Oh how when we love something or someone so much
that we feel that we just can't
LET GO.
But boy oh boy
the moment we place our
"Isaacs"
on the chopping block
LETTING GO
of them to the
GOD who loves us with
HIS whole heart, soul and mind~
HE not only takes away
the weight of the burden that we insist on carrying ourselves,
but
HE fills us
with a PEACE & a HOPE & a JOY that transcends all understanding.
Oh I know
how excruciating it is when
GOD takes you to a deeper level in your faith
TO TRUST HIM
with your
"Isaac".
It has been a way for me to experience
"how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is" (Ephesians 3:18)
And HE isn't done with me yet.
