Day 29: Steadfast Wait
WHAT are you thinking about right now?
WHAT is overtaking your mind?
It could be what I just asked you...
or it could be __________________.
Because whatever or whoever~you fix your mind onhas the power to influence
how your day beginsandhow your day ends.
But what if,
just what if your mind and my mind
could remain in a state of
PERFECT PEACE?
A PEACEthat I can't produce&you can't produce,
because only
GOD
can produce
PERFECT PEACE.
"You will keep in PERFECT PEACEthose whose minds are steadfast,because they trust in YOU"(Isaiah 26:3)
A STEADFAST mind.
The Hebrew word carries the idea of
to lean upon,to take hold of,to rest upon,to stand fast,to be sustained.
Hmm...
Maybe being STEADFASTisn't about trying harder to keep myself peaceful.
Maybe being STEADFASTis about knowing
WHO
I am leaning on.
Because GOD PROMISES to keep us in
PERFECT PEACE
when our minds remain fixed on
HIM.
NOT FIXED on
this happening or this NOT happening.
NOT FIXED on
what someone said or didn't say.
NOT FIXED on what someone did or didn't do.
NOT FIXED on
WHEN,
HOW,
or
IF~
but
FIXED ON GOD
while
HE is doing HIS thing.
And what HE is doing is always according to
HIS WISDOM,HIS PURPOSE,andHIS LOVE.
No matter how hard I tryandno matter how hard you try,
I can'tandyou can't
manufacture
PERFECT PEACE.
Because PERFECT PEACEdoesn't come fromperfect circumstances.
PERFECT PEACEcomes from
a PERFECT GOD.
So I ask again...
WHO or WHAT is overtaking your mind?
Because whatever or whoeveris continually occupying your thoughts
may revealwhat you are leaning on,
what you are looking to,
and ultimately
what you are TRUSTING.
Hmm...
So maybe todaywe need to
FAST from the thoughts that are FEASTING on our PEACE.
FAST from replaying the conversation.
FAST from imagining the outcome.
FAST from trying to figure everything out.
FAST from continually thinking about
WHATEVER or WHOEVER has taken our eyes away from
JESUS.
And instead,
be STEADFAST.
NOT STEADFASTLY thinking about the problem.
NOT STEADFASTLY thinking about the person.
NOT STEADFASTLY trying to figure out the answer.
But
STEADFASTLY TRUSTING IN HIM.
"People with their minds set on YOU,YOU keep completely whole,Steady on their feet,because they keep at it and don't quit."(Isaiah 26:3–4, The Message)
And maybe that is what PERFECT PEACE looks like.
Not having every answer.
Not knowing how everything will turn out.
Not having every circumstance resolved.
But knowing WHO is holding it all.
So when your mind begins to wander back to
WHOMEVER and WHATEVER is stealing your peace.
TURN.
Turn your heart.
Turn your mind.
Turn your eyes.
And
"TURN YOUR EYES UPON JESUS"*
Because when my eyes are on JESUS,
the circumstance may not change,
the person may not change,
the answer may not come,
but JESUS keeps changing ME.
And there,with my mind STEADFASTLY TRUSTING IN HIM,
HE keeps me in PERFECT PEACE.
