Day 27: Everything You Always Wanted

What if all you had was JESUS?
Would HE be enough?
Oh, you may quickly say,
YES! Of course!
Because that sounds like the right
CHRISTIAN answer.
But what if the answer is actually...
NO.
Because
JESUS isn't JUST ENOUGH.
HE is so much more than enough.
HE IS EVERYTHING.
Think about it.
ENOUGH means
adequate, sufficient, satisfactory.
But
EVERYTHING means
ALL.
WHOLE.
ENTIRETY.
So would you rather have
ENOUGH
or
EVERYTHING?
From the very beginning,
humanity needed more than a temporary solution.
When Adam and Eve disobeyed GOD
and sin entered the human story,
it wasn't enough for GOD simply to say,
"Don't do that again".
Sin had entered the world.
Sin separates.
Sin destroys.
Sin leads to death.
We needed a SAVIOR.
And then
CHRISTMAS.
JESUS was BORN.
But the manger was only the beginning.
JESUS
wasn't born to remain a Baby.
The manger was pointing toward
THE CROSS.
HE came to bear our sin.
ALL OF IT.
HE died for it ALL.
HE was buried.
And HE rose victorious over sin and death~
ONCE AND FOR ALL.
That is why you can't separate
CHRISTMAS from EASTER.
You can't have
THE CROSS without the manger.
And the manger finds its purpose
in THE CROSS and the EMPTY TOMB.
BETHLEHEM.
CALVARY.
THE EMPTY TOMB.
It is ALL JESUS.
And when you and I experience the reality
of CHRISTMAS and EASTER
we begin to experience
EVERYTHING JESUS IS.
Because
JESUS IS EVERYTHING
in the midst of sorrow,
because
HE IS JOY.
JESUS IS EVERYTHING
in the midst of confusion,
because
HE IS TRUTH.
JESUS IS EVERYTHING
in the midst of anxiety,
because
HE IS PEACE.
JESUS IS EVERYTHING
in the midst of darkness,
because
HE IS LIGHT.
JESUS IS EVERYTHING
in the midst of death,
because
HE IS LIFE.
It really is quite simple.
Yet how easily I complicate it
when I make
JESUS merely ENOUGH
because what I really want
is
JESUS + SOMETHING ELSE.
JESUS
plus restored circumstances.
JESUS
plus restored relationships.
JESUS
plus restored feelings.
JESUS
plus the answers to all
that have been praying for
in the way that I want all my prayers answered.
Hmm.
Maybe the question isn't,
"Is JESUS enough?"
Maybe the question is~
Do I believe JESUS is my EVERYTHING?
And
Do you believe JESUS is your EVERYTHING?
Because when I believe I need
JESUS AND SOMETHING ELSE
in order to have
JOY,
PEACE,
HOPE,
and
LOVE,
I forget
WHO JESUS IS.
So what is your
SOMETHING ELSE?
What is the thing you believe must change
before you can finally say,
"I have everything I need?"
Give JESUS
your
SOMETHING ELSE.
Not because HE promises
to give you everything you want,
but because HE offers you
something infinitely greater~
HIMSELF.
And when you have
JESUS,
you have
THE ONE
who holds you
when your circumstances
feel like they are falling apart.
Read it for yourself:
"HE is before all things, and IN HIM all things hold together...
For GOD was pleased to have all HIS fullness dwell in him, and through HIM to reconcile to HIMSELF all things... by making peace through HIS blood, shed on the cross"(Colossians 1:17–20).
There it is.
CHRISTMAS IN JULY.
The Baby in the manger wasn't merely
ENOUGH.
HE WAS AND IS EVERYTHING.
THE WORD made flesh.
THE SAVIOR on the Cross.
THE RISEN LORD.
THE KING who is coming again.
From
HERE TO ETERNITY!
It has always been and always will be
JUST JESUS.
So let me ask the question one more time.
What if all you had was JESUS?
Would HE be ENOUGH?
Oh no.
HE is so much more than enough.
HE IS EVERYTHING.
HE always was.
HE always is.
And HE always will be.
So this
CHRISTMAS IN JULY,
may your heart say~
JESUS,
YOU are
"MY ALL IN ALL"
