Once upon a time, there were two women.

They both had a baby son.

One baby died.

One baby lived.

During the night,

the mother whose baby had died switched the babies

while the other mother was sleeping.

When morning came, the mother awoke

and found a dead baby beside her.

But when she looked closely,

she knew that

THIS WAS NOT HER SON.

THE TRUTH WILL SET YOU FREE!

The two women went before

King Solomon.

The mother of the living baby pleaded her case~

"During the night this woman's son died because she lay on him. So she got up in the middle of the night and took my son from my side while I your servant was asleep... The next morning, I got up to nurse my son—and he was dead! But when I looked at him closely in the morning light, I saw that it wasn't the son I had borne"*

THE TRUTH WILL SET YOU FREE!

But the other woman insisted,

"No! The living one is my son; the dead one is yours"*

Back and forth they argued.

One TRUTH.

One lie.

But how could King Solomon possibly know which was which?

Then the king said,

"Bring me a sword"*

And he ordered,

"Cut the living child in two and give half to one and half to the other"*

THE TRUTH WILL SET YOU FREE!

Immediately,

the heart of the true mother was revealed.

Out of her deep love for her son,

she cried~

"Please, my lord, give her the living baby! Don't kill him!"*

But the other woman said,

"Neither I nor you shall have him. Cut him in two!"*

And suddenly...

THE TRUTH

could be seen.

King Solomon declared,

"Give the living baby to the first woman. Do not kill him; she is his mother"

*(1 Kings 3:16–28)*

THE TRUTH WILL SET YOU FREE!

The lesson of this story is more than a moral.

It is about

TRUTH.

For a moment,

it appeared as though the woman telling the TRUTH

wasn't being heard.

Have you ever been there?

You know THE TRUTH.

You speak THE TRUTH.

Yet it feels as though your words are falling on deaf ears.

But

GOD HEARS.

GOD KNOWS.

And

GOD IS JUST.

The lie may have been loud,

but THE TRUTH had not changed.

And eventually,

THE TRUTH was revealed.

But there is something else about this story that touches my heart.

The true mother

LOVED her son so deeply that she was willing

to give him up so that

HE COULD LIVE.

Isn't that what LOVE does?

LOVE puts the life of another before itself.

And suddenly,

I think about CHRISTMAS.

Because CHRISTMAS is the greatest

LOVE story ever told.

The true mother was willing to give up her son

so her son could live.

But GOD gave us HIS SON

so that we could live.

"For GOD so loved the world that HE gave HIS one and only SON..."(John 3:16)

There it is.

CHRISTMAS.

GOD SO LOVED

that

GOD GAVE.

HE gave us JESUS.

And THE BABY

lying in the manger would grow up to tell us,

"I am the way and the TRUTH and the life" (John 14:6).

And HE also said,

"Then you will know the TRUTH, and the TRUTH will set you free" (John 8:32).

Oh...

THE TRUTH WILL SET YOU FREE!

Not simply because TRUTH

is something you know.

But because

TRUTH IS A PERSON.

JESUS.

So this

CHRISTMAS IN JULY,

look beyond the manger.

See THE SON.

See THE LOVE of THE FATHER

who gave HIM.

See THE SAVIOR

who came so that you could live.

Because

GOD SO LOVED

that

GOD GAVE.

And what did HE give?

JESUS.

The WAY

The TRUTH.

The LIFE.

The greatest

GIFT of CHRISTMAS.

"FOR GOD SO LOVED THE WORLD"

(Listen to the song below.)
